The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Edits

One Edit to Rule Them All

Five Episodes. Five Hours. Five Edits.

The Hobbit is changed.

I see it in the Films.

I read it on the Forums.

I tell it, on the web.

Much that once was, is cut. And none now live, who remember it.

It began with the forging of the Great Edits.

Three films were given to the Nerds; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings.

Seven years to the Editors. Redesigners, and craftsmen of the Forum Walls.

And Five, Five Edits were gifted to the Academy, who above all else, revise for hours.

For within these edits was bound the length and the skill to govern each film.

But they were all of them deceived, for another edit was made.

In the land of Indoors, in the fires of "My Room," the Dark Lord Stromboli forged in secret, a master edit, to combine all others.

And into this edit he poured his creativity, his talents, and his will to culminate all Five.

One Edit to Rule Them All.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Edits is a reimagining of Peter Jackson's Film Trilogy;

A Five-Hour Miniseries that aims to remove the bloat contained within The Hobbit films and improve the quality of the viewer's experience.

Comprised of elements from many of the other Hobbit-Edits out there (as well as my own contributions to the content and structure of the original films) this edit represents Three Years, and thousands of hours of dedication to making The Hobbit films as enjoyable as possible, to as many people as possible.

Quality Information

  • 532 Minutes - Original Runtime
  • 277 Minutes - Content Removed (52%)
  • 255 Minutes - Final Runtime (+ 36 Minute Bonus Episode)
  • All versions are in 1080p and are encoded with 5.1 Surround Sound (AAC 640kbps)
  • English & Spanish subtitles can be downloaded separately in the Subtitles folder
  • (Put the .srt file in the same folder as the .mp4 when you go to watch it)
  • Want subs in a different language? Ask and I’ll do my best!
  • Higher Quality Versions can be found within their own folder within the Download Link
  • The main Version went through both Video and Audio compression after being exported in order to bring the file size down.
  • The “Better Video” files came straight out of Adobe and I didn’t compress them any further (2x Pass, VBR 12mbps with a Max of 20mbps)
  • The versions with “High Quality Audio” had the Audio exported separately as 24Hz WAV files and then combined with the Uncompressed Video file into an MKV.
  • Warning: These have been known to Not Work for some people. I have no idea why, nor what to do about it, other than to suggest one of the other versions.
  • Any feedback you have is very important to me! I'm quite content with where my edit currently sits, but I am always open to suggestions and ways to continue to improve!
  • If you feel like going the extra mile, a review on my IFDB page goes a long way, and I greatly appreciate it!
  • Thank you all for your interest, and I hope you enjoy The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Edits :)

Special Thanks

Most importantly, I want to thank my wife, whom I married on Frodo and Bilbo's birthday! Without her this project would not exist, nor would I have had the opportunity to show it off at my local movie theater to a full house!

I would also like to thank Jasper Rex for the awesome artwork he did, Wraith for taking the time to watch (over and over) and review my edit, Artisdead for doing everything in his power to see my project come to light, and the rest of the community at Fanedit.org!
